Snacks have a negative connotation—when we hear the word snacks or think of them, we tend to imagine something sweet or salty. Delicious? Yes. Healthy? Not so much.
But you can snack and stay healthy at the same time while also satisfying those cravings.
Bannister Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing had a look at three snacks that are not only healthy, but can leave you feeling younger and more energetic in the process.
- Almonds
Studies show that people who eat nuts every day can live longer than those who don’t, and the best nuts you can eat are almonds. The anti-aging component of almonds are vitamin E, which is an antioxidant that prevents damage to cells. They are also high in protein and fatty acids that leave you feeling full.
- Veggies Dipped in Hummus
Veggies are a great snack on their own, but taking carrots, celery, and cucumbers and dipping them into hummus makes it even more satisfying—and nutritious! The veggies will help keep you and your skin hydrated, and the hummus is loaded with fiber to keep your gut happy and healthy.
- Berries
Berries, blueberries in particular, are loaded with something called anthocyanins, which can help with your memory, and the antioxidants can also help prevent heart disease and keep your skin healthy.
- Greek Yogurt
Low-fat, plain yogurt is a healthy snack, but up the ante with a cup of Greek yogurt. Not only is it loaded with probiotics, but also calcium for strong bones and protein for muscle health. You can get the best of both worlds by adding some berries to your Greek yogurt for a healthy snack or nutritious breakfast.
